Artbank e-bulletin - November 2007

Happily, the spectrum of Artbank’s clients is as diverse as the range of artworks in our collection. Our clients are from both the public and private sector and include finance, legal, media, advertising and education organisations.

Artbank’s simple and thoughtful curation of artworks is livening up the tone and atmosphere of many Australian offices and other public and private spaces—creating spaces that our clients and their visitors can really enjoy.

This month we are looking at one of those spaces, the offices of Artbank client Cadence Australia.

Geoffrey Cassidy, Director

Artbank has placed an interesting selection of artworks in the Sydney office of Cadence Australia, a project management consultancy in the construction and development industry. The selection reflects a considered yet youthful approach, which is congruous with the firm’s image of experience and commitment.

Entering the reception of the office, a visitor is greeted with a 2.5 metre high bright red rocket sculpture by artist, Robert Jenyns. The rocket is reminiscent of Meccano construction toys and with child like flair brings focus to an otherwise featureless space. The work is a rather appropriate introduction to the office space and echoes the construction field in which Cadence Australia specialises.

Corridors lead off the reception area in opposite directions, one to the main hub of business activity and the other to boardrooms and a staff common area. The main focus here is on areas where Cadence interacts with its clients and visitors. In this area a number of Indigenous bark paintings guide the visitors to a series of meeting spaces. The works highlight the relationship with the land as a paramount and significant aspect of Cadence’s business. Lastly, a delicate print work by Neil Emmerson of wood nymphs gives the staff common area a lively backdrop, and also ties back to the playfulness of the Robert Jenyns rocket.

The selection of artworks by an organisation can project a certain image and set a tone for a specific space, as in the case of Cadence Australia. A well curated display is not only a splash of colour on office walls, but a way for a firm to communicate their values to business partners and clients.
