Artbank e-bulletin - July 2008

Firstly, a quick reminder that Artbank will be attending the Melbourne Art Fair (30 July - 3 Aug) as exhibitor, official tour guide and as a major buyer. We welcome all of our clients, colleagues and friends to visit us for a guided tour of the Art Fair or in our stand A50. Details of the fair can be found at www.artfair.com.au or call 03 9416 2050

It is always exciting for us at Artbank when artists we have supported early in their practices go on to build dynamic careers, being included in major shows and garnering awards. We would like to congratulate the following, merely a small sample, for their recent achievements.

· Featured in the 2008 Sydney Biennale were Richard Larter, Mike Parr, Rosemary Laing, Gordon Bennett, Tracey Moffatt, Destiny Deacon, Richard Bell, Vernon Ah Kee and Shaun Gladwell.

· Awarded the People’s Choice Prize of $10,000 in the 2008 Metro 5 Art Award, Melbourne was Jackson Slattery for his triptych Mistakes we wish we’d made, Irtusk Russia, 16-17 November

· Selected for exhibition this Spring in the prestigious Primavera award at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney were: Ms & Mr, Gemma Smith and Paul Knight.

· Short listed for the leading Gold Coast International Ceramic Art Award were Mitsuo Shoji, Michel Boulay and Neville French.

· We especially have our fingers crossed for the following artists who have been shortlisted for the inaugural Basil Sellers Art Prize: Daniel Crooks, Scott Redford, Ivan Durrant, Anne Zahalka, Kate Daw, David Jolly, Shaun Gladwell, Josie Kunoth Petyarre, Selina Ou, Jon Cattapan.  The $100,000 prize is to be announced in Melbourne on Thursday 31 July.

Lastly, I would also like to announce that Kate Dezarnaulds has recently joined Artbank as the new head of Client Services and Business Development. Kate has a BA Art Theory and a MA Art Business and has a background in sponsorship, PR, marketing and client development. She comes to us from Sotheby's which she joined in London in 2001, overseeing VIP client development for a number of European and Asian markets. She then transferred back to Australia in 2004 where she was responsible for press, marketing and strategic client development for the Australian operation. She is looking forward to using her skills to build on the great strengths of Artbank.
