Factories 6, (n.d.)
Oil on canvas
121 x 180cm

Factories 6 is part of a body of work made by painter Mandy Martin in the early 1980s, apparently concerned with the formal geometry of the industrial environment.
Martin recently reflected back on this period, revealing: ‘I was looking generally for metaphors of the human condition within an urbanised society and was using a lot of building and warehouse fronts. I started to use the factory as a symbol of the industrial condition – as a masculine, hard metaphor.’
