Tableland Ceremony, 2003
Glazed ceramic, feathers
72 x 44 x 35cm

Printmaker and ceramist Danie Mellor uses symbolic elements to explore the themes of settlement, travel, displacement and living between two cultures.
In Tableland Ceremony, Indigenous ceremonial motifs, feathers, combine with a ceramic German Shepherd to produce a metaphor for the European fascination for collecting and guarding Indigenous cultural material.
Mellor's work draws from a variety of sources but centres on the rainforest area around Cairns, which is home to his mother's family.
