Lacquer on Aluminium
99 x 120 x 12 cm
Giles Ryder was born in 1972. His practice – be it paint on shaped aluminium or neon floor pieces – involves, as he says himself, ‘furthering the concepts of reduction (of form, space, line and material), the effect of colour (visual as signature and psychological effects) and the experiential qualities of painting’.
He chooses materials such as auto lacquer and techniques such as industrial spray painting to give the effect of a 'custom paint job'. Most often, that paint job is the effect of layers and layers of pearlescent paint that capture light and bounces it back to confound our perceptual appreciation. .
