Just Off Sunset, 2003
Pencil on paper
40 x 40 cm
Paul White’s Just Off Sunset is from a series of photographs he took of delivery vans that had been covered in graffiti to become mobile artworks or canvases. White says, ‘this particular Ford van was found on a side street off Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles. Literally just off 'Sunset' but also metaphorically just off sunset, in the sense of an imagined impending apocalypse, signalled in the brash display of lawlessness and disregard for property or prosecution. Some may consider the defacing of this van as either symbolic of a gradual decline in modern civilisation or representative of trying to have a voice or presence in a modern day metropolis.’.
