Gangurru: In Leaps and Bounds celebrates the kangaroo as a powerful symbol of Australia’s identity, resilience and connection place. Drawing on works from across the Artbank collection, the exhibition explores the kangaroo’s significance in First Nations cultures, its role in shaping national narratives and its enduring presence in Australian art.

From Artbank’s first artwork, Richard Crichton’s Kangaroo Study No. 4, to contemporary works by leading Australian artists, the exhibition invites audiences to consider the many stories carried by this iconic animal across Australia’s past, present and future.

Guest curated by Madeline Poll, Assistant Curator, First Nations at the Powerhouse Museum, alongside Courtney Kidd, Artbank Art Consultant, Gangurru: In Leaps and Bounds offers a fresh perspective on one of Australia’s most recognisable and enduring cultural symbols.
